Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee Tuesday said that she has nominated her nephew Abhishek Banerjee as a party Lok Sabha candidate to help him to "learn".
Introducing Abhishek, the president of Trinamool Yuva, to the party workers, the state chief minister said since childhood, he had nurtured a desire to join politics.
"It has been his dream and desire since his childhood to be in politics. He has been in politics for years," said Banerjee at the Trinamool workers' meeting.
Abhishek has been nominated from Diamond Harbour seat in South 24 Parganas. In the polls held five years back, Trinamool's Somen Mitra had won from the constituency, but he quit as an MP to rejoin the Congress earlier this year.
"I believe those born with a golden spoon should be in politics by being with the people, and not with the backing of anyone else," said Banerjee.
