Cuenca (Spain), May 2 (IANS/EFE) A board game created by a nun in Cuenca that tests players' knowledge about Jesus is hitting it big in Spain and will also be marketed in the Americas.
According to information provided to EFE by Edice, the Spanish bishops conference's publishing house, the game went on sale in late March and in April there were many requests for it all over Spain, above all as a gift for children on the occasion of their first communion.
In addition, requests for the game - which sells for a price of 49 euros ($64) - have come from Mexico, and so Edice also has its eye focused on the Americas as a potential market.
The game was created and designed by the head of religious classes for the Cuenca Diocese, 35-year-old Carmelite nun Maria Granados.
Called "La alegria de la fe" (The joy of the faith), the game is designed to test players' knowledge about Jesus with miming, games, gestures, drawings and prayers, Granados told EFE.
The look of the game is that of the traditional "snakes and ladders" game, with players rolling a die to move forward along the board to ultimately arrive at square No. 67, which is entitled "Jesus is Lord".
The game includes a series of tests that players must take and it poses questions such as "Why can we chose between good and evil?"
In addition, the game is designed for people aged 7 and up and it can be played among family members, in groups, at school or within the context of religious classes, its creator said.
"La alegria de la fe" went on sale in Cuenca recently in the Bishopric Palace's store and, at present, religious authorities say they are happy with its sales.
