A 28-year-old man died while three others were seriously injured in a road accident here when their speeding car rammed into a stationary truck, police said on Friday.
According to police, the incident occurred on Thursday night near the Adhchini area of south Delhi.
The deceased has been identified as Harbhajan, 28, a resident of Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh, while three of his friends who suffered severe injuries were identified as Shubham Dua and his brother Aditya Ranjan, who works in the merchant navy and Sumit Rana, an IT professional.
"The incident was reported around 11.30 p.m. at Adhchini traffic signal when all the four occupants of the car were returning after having dinner," a senior police officer told IANS.
"Harbhajan died on the spot while the injured were taken to a nearby hospital where they are out of danger now," the officer added.
An officer linked to the probe said that prima facie, it appears that all of them were allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
"They could not apply the break on time as their Maruti Swift car was over speeding when the accident occurred. The driver of the truck fled from the spot," the officer said.
The truck driver was arrested later. He has been identified as Kishanpal, 39, police said.
Their family members were informed and a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Vasant Vihar police station, police said.
