One person was killed and nine injured on Friday when an army truck hit a Maruti car from behind in this town in Darjeeling district of West Bengal, police said.
The car went out of control due to the impact near a popular shopping mall on the busy Siliguri-Burdwan road in the northern Bengal town, leading to the death of a middle-aged cyclist.
Five car passengers, a woman and her daughter riding a cycle-rickshaw and two pedestrians were among the injured.
Four of the injured were women, Siliguri Additional Deputy Commissioner Mrinal Majumdar said.
Eight of the injured were sent to Siliguri district hospital and one admitted at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.
Following the accident, angry locals put up a roadblock, resulting in a traffic jam.
