Reigning US Open Flavia Pennetta of Italy secured her place in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Finals in Singapore after beating Russia's Daria Gavrilova 6-2, 6-4, in the second round of the Kremlin Cup here.
Pennetta, seeded third in the tournament, on Wednesday advanced to the quarter-finals, and gathered 3,252 points to ensure her presence in the 2015 WTA Finals, scheduled to be held from October 25 to November 1, Efe reported.
Pennetta joined German Angelique Kerber, Romanian Simona Halep, Spain's Garbine Muguruza, Russian Maria Sharapova, the Czech Petra Kvitova and Polish Agnieszka Radwanska, who have already qualified to the WTA Finals.
