A police sub-inspector was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun distrcit during a gun battle with armed assailants, police said on Thursday.
The incident took place on the Bareilly highway late Wednesday night in which sub-inspector Sarvesh Yadav was shot dead and two other policemen were injured in the exchange of fire.
An official told IANS during a checking, three assailants on a bike were intercepted on a tip-off that they were on the way to a loot.
As the police team tried to stop and check them, they opened fire, killing the sub-inspector on the spot. One injured assailant was nabbed by the policemen while two managed to escape.
Condition of police constable Pramod is stated to be critical, the official added.
