Poll preparedness under SVEEP and MCC reviewed in Kashmir

Election authorities in Jammu and Kashmir Tuesday interacted with nodal officers of all the districts in the state to review activities under the systematic voter education and electoral participation (SVEEP) and model code of conduct (MCC) components.

A statement issued by the chief electoral officer (CEO) here Tuesday said, "Deputy Chief Electoral Officer, Rakesh Srangal and Consultant Elections, S. Harcharan Singh today (Tuesday) interacted with the SVEEP and MCC nodal officers of all districts of the state and reviewed the activities under these two components.

"The nodal officers apprised that SVEEP activities are going in their respective areas as per the mandate of the Election Commission of India (ECI) in full swing. They informed that several departments, agencies, NGOs, educational institutions have been involved in the campaign to motivate the people and maximise participation in the elections.

"The officers further informed that the people, especially the youngsters and students, who shall cast their vote for the first time are taking keen interest in the campaign and are enthusiastic about it.

"Various means like skits by folk artists, slogans, banners, radio, TV programmes, SMS, Internet and newspapers are being utilised to create awareness amongst the masses about the importance of elections and their votes. Special arrangements are being made to train the officials about the use of EVMs and other related issues, it was informed.

"As regard to the implementation of MCC, the concerned informed that all complaints which are pouring from different quarters are minutely monitored and disposed as per guidelines of ECI.

"Srangal and Harcharan Singh expressed satisfaction on the activities and urged the nodal officers to further step-up the campaign so that more and more people are made aware and make use of their franchise".
