Portugal beat Ghana 2-1 in their last group match of the World Cup here Thursday but both were eliminated from FIFA World Cup Group G as the United States, who lost to Germany 0-1 in the other match, finished second on goal difference.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first goal of the World Cup finals with his winner coming in the 80th minute but it wasn't enough to keep his team in the tournament, reports Xinhua.
Germany advanced to the last 16 as group leaders on seven points and the United States are second on four, ahead of Portugal (4) and Ghana (1).
Portugal took the lead in the 30th minute thanks to an own goal from John Boye, who turned a cross into his own net.
Asamoah Gyan equalised the score in the 57th minute before Ronaldo fired home the winner.
