Prosecutor in Pakistan judges' detention case opts out

The prosecutor in the judges' detention case, related to former president Pervez Musharraf, has recused himself for personal reasons in the Anti-Terrorism Court here, Geo News reported.

Prosecutor Syed Muhammad Tayyab excused himself from the case Wednesday during a court hearing.

The proceeding of the case is likely to be delayed until the appointment of a new prosecutor. Meanwhile, the law ministry has also been informed about the change of prosecutor.

Earlier, former president and army chief Pervez Musharraf's lawyer Rizwan Abbasi had withdrawn his power of attorney in this case by recusing himself.

In the absence of prosecutor, the hearing of the judges' detention case has been adjourned until May 18.

Musharraf was arrested April 19, a day after he fled from the Islamabad High Court which had ordered his arrest in a 2007 case related to the detention of senior judges.

The case is based on an FIR against Musharraf registered in Aug 11, 2009 on the complaint of Chaudhry Mohammad Aslam Ghumman, an advocate.

He had asked the police to initiate legal proceedings against Musharraf for detaining over 60 judges, including Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, after proclamation of a state of emergency in the country Nov 3, 2007.
