The Rajya Sabha was Monday adjourned for 15 minutes after opposition members vociferously raised the issue of the government hiking diesel and petrol prices last weekend.
As soon as the house met at 11 a.m., the opposition members got up and raised the issue of the price hike that was taken by the government Saturday following depreciation of the rupee and hardening of crude prices in the international market.
Unable to take up the scheduled business in the face of opposition protests, Rajya Sabha chairman Hamid Ansari announced that the house be adjourned for 15 minutes.
The Rajya Sabha is to discuss Monday the landmark National Food Security Bill that was passed by the Lok Sabha last week.
