The Sports Ministry on Wednesday hiked the financial assistance for Rio-bound shooter Heena Sidhu from Rs 75 lakh to Rs one crore under the Target Olympic Podium (TOP) scheme for training and other support till the quadrennial extravaganza.
The ministry has also approved the release of 90 per cent of total estimated cost for her training, which is scheduled from June to August.
The 26-year-old earned her Rio berth in 10 metre air pistol at the Asia Olympic Qualifiers in January where she clinched the gold medal.
"Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has approved the enhancement of budget for Heena Sidhu from Rs 75 lakh to Rs one crore under TOP Scheme for training and other support till Olympics 2016," the ministry said in a statement.
"It has also approved release of advance for her training during June-August, 2016."
