Rs 60,000 hashish seized in Kolkata, two arrested

After its crackdown on multiple drug peddlers in the city, Kolkata Police arrested two more drug dealers and seized charas (hashish) worth Rs 60,000 from them, an officer said on Friday.

"Two notorious drug dealers Ranajit Dey (60) and Ansar Ahamed (45) were arrested from north Kolkata's Narkeldanga area on Thursday," Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police (crime), Vishal Garg said.

"The duo were found in possession of charas weighing 233 grams and 348 respectively. The total seized substance has a market value of nearly Rs 60,000," he said.

Police said, both the arrested drug dealers are residents of Kolkata.

"Both the accused were charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The two were produced at the Alipore court on Friday where they have been remanded to police custody till December 21," the officer added.

In a recent drug racket haul, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested five persons in the city, including a DJ and an events manager, in the last one week and seized hashish, LSD strips and drugged candies from them.
