Security has been beefed up at the Supreme Court after it received an email threat to blow it up in retaliation for the execution of 1993 Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon.

"The threat mail was received on the court's official email address on Monday afternoon. The mail in English language threatenen to blow up the court building after the recent judgment on Yakub Memon's hanging," police sources said on Tuesday.

The sources said the email was sent on supremecourt@nic.in.

"The case has been forwarded to the special cell and cyber cell which along with the district police are trying to trace the source of the email," the sources added.

Security at the Supreme Court complex has meanwhile been beefed up with deployment of more Rajasthan police personnel.

Following the threat, the Supreme Court issued an advisory that law trainees would not be allowed entry in the high security zone within the complex.

"The competent authority has directed that the entry of law trainees and law students to the high security zone will be restricted for one month," said a circular issued by the apex court.

Apart from banning law students' entry, the apex court also directed withdrawal of chairs provided to security staffs deputed inside the court complex.

On August 5, Supreme Court judge Justice Dipak Misra, who was on the bench that upheld Memon's execution, received a threat letter. The security for all three judges on the bench that had pronounced the order has been stepped up.

Memon was convicted for his role in the Mumbai blasts in which 257 people were killed. He was hanged on July 30 after a night of unprecedented legal action.
