Seven wagons of a goods train of the Konkan Railway jumped off the tracks here early Sunday, an official said.
The wagons of the Kota-Calicut train carrying a consignment of foodgrain derailed at Karanjadi, around 200 kms south of Mumbai, around 6.30 a.m., a Konkan Railway spokesperson said.
However, the entire Konkan Railway mainline route has been blocked and all major passenger trains in north-south directions have been stopped.
"Train services on the Konkan Railway route are likely to be affected for a few hours today due to derailment. Accident relief trains and an accident relief medical van has been rushed to the site," the spokesperson told IANS.
There were no casualties in the accident.
But worst hit were the thousands of passengers travelling to their native villages for celebrating the annual 10-Ganeshotsav festival starting Friday.
