Former Brazil and Real Betis striker Rafael Sobis scored in first-half injury time to give Fluminense a 1-0 victory over Palmeiras.
Sobis slotted the ball into the bottom right corner after Fred's assist just seconds before the halftime whistle at the Pacaembu stadium Saturday night, reports Xinhua.
The result lifted Fluminense to the top of Brazil's Serie A standings after two matches while eight-time champions Palmeiras slipped to sixth.
Coritiba and Santos played a goalless draw in Saturday's only other duel at the Couto Pereira stadium in the southern city of Curitiba.
A tantalising round of fixtures continues Sunday with Botafogo hosting Internacional, Corinthians entertaining Flamengo, Cruzeiro at home to Sao Paulo and Atletico Mineiro travelling to Gremio.
