Speaker inaugurates DRDO exhibition in Parliament premises

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Wednesday inaugurated an exhibition of defence equipment by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in the Parliament House complex.

The three-day exhibition, organised by DRDO, exhibhits various defence technology products developed indigenously.

The Speaker told the members about the exhibition in the House and suggested they visit the venue.

"The exhibition has been put up in Parliament premises at the request of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and DRDO officials who want to showcase the works of DRDO. This is being put up near the Parliament Library building," she said in the House.

Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Deputy Speaker M. Thambi Durai and other government officials attended the inaugural event.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited the exhibition area accompanied by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar and two junior colleagues - MoS Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and S.S. Ahluwalia.

The exhibition will continue till August 5 and display a number of state-of-the-art defence technologies, products and systems developed by various DRDO laboratories -- including the BrahMos missile, the "Arjuna" main battle tank, Airborne Early Warning and Control System, Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher "Pinaka" and much more.
