A Sri Lankan police commando committed suicide on Thursday by shooting himself with his weapon at a checkpoint at Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's official residence in the capital, officials said.
The deceased was a member of the Special Task Force (STF) and identified as a 30-year-old Godadeniyalage Dilruksha Samarasinghe, Sri Lankan Ada Derana news portal reported.
He was a resident of Algama area, the police said.
According to the Sri Lankan media, Samarasinghe shot himself at the checkpoint at the Prime Minister's residence Temple Trees and sustained critical injuries to his head.
The police suspect that the deceased committed suicide over an issue involving a romantic relationship.
