While life limped back to normal in Srinagar on Tuesday, sporadic clashes and a complete shutdown rocked Anantnag town for the second day.
Police said that sporadic clashes erupted between stone pelting youth and the security forces in Anantnag on Tuesday where markets and educational institutions remained shut and public transport off the road for the second day.
"Heavy deployment of security forces has been made on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway to ensure smooth passage of traffic and safety of travellers," a senior police officer told IANS in Srinagar.
The youth have been taking to the strategic highway to block traffic for the last two days after the death of Zahid Rasool Bhat, who was attacked with a petrol bomb in Udhampur on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on October 9.
Bhat belonged to Batangoo village of Anantnag district.
Another Kashmiri, Showkat Ahmad Dar, was injured with Bhat in the petrol bomb attack and he is undergoing treatment at Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital.
Life, however, returned to normal in Srinagar on Tuesday as shops, educational institutions, public and private transport started functioning after Monday's protest shutdown against the youth's killing.
