Taiwan on Tuesday issued a warning as the island country braced for the arrival of Typhoon Meranti.
The Central Weather Bureau of Taiwan said the typhoon is expected to hit the southern island on Wednesday and Thursday, Efe news reported.
The typhoon strengthened into a super typhoon in the Pacific Ocean on Monday.
The weather experts forecast strong winds both in the southeastern part and on the Green and Orchid Islands.
They advised boats navigating in Bashi Channel, the Formosa Strait and surrounding waters to take precautions against strong waves.

Meranti, located about 500 km east-southeast of Eluanbi on the southern tip of Taiwan, was moving at a speed of 22 kmph in a west-northwesterly direction, the bureau said.
