The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Friday sought the Telangana governor's intervention to address the problems faced by farmers.
Blaming the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government for the suicides of farmers, the TDP sought immediate steps to help the distressed farmers.
A delegation of TDP leaders led by L. Ramana met Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan here Friday and submitted a memorandum.
Ramana, who is heading the TDP in Telangana, said the government's failure to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to farmers is leading to their suicides.
The delegation demanded that the government pay Rs.10 lakh compensation each to the families of farmers who committed suicides.
The opposition party also sought Rs.30,000 as compensation for every acre of crop lost due to lack of electricity supply.
The TDP delegation which included senior leaders E. Dayakar Rao and R. Chandrasekhar Reddy brought to the governor's notice the attacks by TRS members on TDP leaders and the party office in Nalgonda.
They alleged that the TRS government is blaming the TDP for its inefficiency to provide power to farmers. They claimed that TRS leaders, including a minister, instigated the cadre to set on fire the TDP office in Nalgonda.
They said the TRS deliberately spread misinformation that the TDP government in Andhra Pradesh is responsible for power shortage in Telangana and instigated people to attack TDP offices and its leaders in Telangana.
They urged the governor to intervene and ensure action against TRS leaders involved in attacks.
