Three people, including a Border Security Force (BSF) trooper, died and 11 others were injured in a road accident in Mizoram on Sunday, police said.
"Two people, including a BSF head constable, were killed on the spot when their speeding vehicle overturned," a police officer said.
"Twelve others were injured in the accident and they were admitted to a government hospital. Another person succumbed to his injuries in the hospital," the police officer said.
The accident occurred at Kawnpui area near Mizoram-Assam border in Mizoram's Kolasib district. The people were going to Assam's Guwahati city from Mizoram's Lunglei.
The deceased were identified as BSF head constable Juresh Yadav, 45, Sushendra Roy, 48, and Biresh Chandra Das, 59. Roy and Das belong to Karimganj district of southern Assam.
Police suspected that the driver, who fled after the accident, was inattentive while driving.
