CPI-M leader Surjakanta Mishra Wednesday accused West Bengal's Trinamool Congress government of being unwilling to deploy central security forces for the impending panchayat polls.
"If the state government is willing, then everything is possible. But it does not wish to arrange for central security forces. It does not want a peaceful democratic election," Mishra said here.
He warned that protests against the state government's failure to conduct the polls would reach Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
"The state government will have to bear the responsibility if panchayat polls are not held. The protest against that will reach the chief minister at Writers' Buildings (state secretariat). Some panchayats are already defunct," said Mishra.
"Twelve people have been murdered, of whom eight were affiliated to the CPI-M. The state government has not even answered the court's notice to compile a list of security forces needed at each booth. This clearly shows what the state government wants," he said.
The stalemate over holding panchayat polls in West Bengal Wednesday reached the apex court with the State Election Commission moving the Supreme Court.
