Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas received on Tuesday a telephone call from US President Donald Trump, who told him of his intention to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
President Abbas warned of the dangers of such a decision on the peace process, security and stability in the region and the world, Presidential Spokesman Nabil Abu Rdineh said in an official statement, Xinhua news agency reported.
"The President reaffirms our firm position that no Palestinian state without East Jerusalem as its capital in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab peace initiative," said Abu Rdineh.
He added that the president will continue his contacts with world leaders to prevent such unacceptable action.
Trump was intending to make an official decision on Wednesday to decide on moving the US embassy to Jerusalem or recognizing the city as the capital of Israel.
Reports said earlier on Tuesday that the White House announced that Trump postponed his decision on Jerusalem to Monday next week.
However, Palestinian factions, including Hamas and Abbas' Fatah Party, called for three days of rage and anger in the Palestinian territories, starting from Wednesday against any decision that will be taken on Jerusalem.
