The Border Security Force apprehended two people and seized fake Indian currency notes (FICN) with a face value of nearly Rs.3 lakh from West Bengal, an officer said on Sunday.
The two people were nabbed on Saturday night from Mohanpur village in Malda district.
"The accused are residents of Malda and the consignment of FICN of face value of Rs.2.98 lakh was being smuggled from Bangladesh. We have also seized some mobile phones and SIM cards from them," said a BSF officer.
The BSF so far this year has seized FICN of more than Rs.1,83,10,500 and apprehended 20 persons involved in the racket.
Alarmed over the smuggling of fake notes, the National Investigation Agency has begun probing at least three such recoveries made from West Bengal.
The central agency was also working with the Bangladeshi authorities in developing standard operating procedure to counter the growing menace of fake currency notes.
