Two injured in Pakistan shelling in Jammu

Two civilians were injured in overnight shelling by Pakistan Rangers in Samba district of Jammu region, police said on Sunday.

"Pakistan Rangers started shelling and firing at 9.20 p.m. yesterday (Saturday) on the international border in Samba district," a senior police officer told IANS in Jammu.

"The BSF (Border Security Force) effectively retaliated and the exchange of fire continued till 3 a.m. today (Sunday)," the officer said.

Two civilians -- Kalasho Devi, 40, and Pritam Chand 45, both residents of Mawa village in Samba district were injured due to Pakistan shelling, the officer added.

"The station house officer (SHO) of the area took the injured in a bullet proof vehicle to Samba district hospital where the doctors referred Kalasho Devi to Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu.

"Pakistan army also resorted to indiscriminate shelling and firing in Bobian village on the international border in Kathua district," the police officer said.

"Pakistan shelling started at 11.30 p.m. on Saturday and continued till 2.30 a.m. today (Sunday). Details of any casualty or damage to life and property are awaited," the officer said.

One civilian was killed and four injured in unprovoked Pakistani firing on the international border in Samba district of Jammu region since Friday (October 23).

Many milch animals were also killed and wounded due to Pakistani shelling.
