Two people have been arrested for carrying 2 kg heroin valued at Rs.3 lakh, police said here on Thursday.
Mohd. Firozuddin, 31, and Shaju, 44, residents of Delhi and Kerala, respectively, were arrested on Wednesday near Rajdoot Hotel in south Delhi.
Police said Firozuddin was to deliver the heroin to Shaju.
"Two kg of pure heroin, one from each of the accused, which was packed in silver foil and further concealed in two cardboard boxes of corn flakes, were recovered from their possession," a police official said.
Shaju, an electrician, who worked as a driver in Kuwait for two years, told police that he was roped in the drug peddling syndicate by a man based in Kuwait named Jabbar.
"On Jabbar's instruction, Shaju started coming to Delhi for receiving consignments of drugs," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Yadav said.
"Shaju had received drugs in the past at different places in Delhi from different intermediaries and had supplied these consignments in Kerala to different people on Jabbar's instructions," the official said.
Firozuddin told police that he had started mobile repair work and shifted to dealing in scrap articles.
"About four years ago, he came in contact with a man named Naushad who offered him to sell cannabis in lieu of commission. Naushad later provided him heroine for local sale also," the police official said.
According to the official, Naushad was arrested by Punjab Police after some time.
"Later, Firozuddin was roped in by a man named Sheikh to deliver high quality heroin. For every successful delivery, he was promised $200," the official said.
