A woman sub-inspector and a constable have been arrested here for extorting money from a Punjab-based businessman after threatening to trap him in the sex trade, Delhi Police said Wednesday.
Sub-inspector Vandana and constable Hans Kumar were taken into custody after a complaint was lodged against them two days ago. Both were posted with the Crime Branch.
Jaspreet, who has a business of clothes, had come to Delhi four days ago. He checked in a hotel located in south Delhi's Mehrauli area.
On Sep 1, Vandana along with a few men approached Jaspreet at the hotel and introduced themselves as police officials from the Crime Branch.
They informed Jaspreet that a raid was being conducted in the hotel and a few couples have been caught. They asked Jaspreet to come along with them for questioning. Two policemen took Jaspreet in a car.
"While on the way to a police station, they took Jaspreet to some isolated place in the same area and told him they have recorded a video featuring him with the couples coming out of the hotel," a police officer said.
They threatened to arrest him in a case of sex trade and demanded Rs.2 lakh to end the matter. Jaspreet gave them Rs.40,000, and assured them he would pay the remaining amount the next time they meet.
On returning back to the hotel, he informed the hotel staff who later informed police.
"We laid a trap and both the accused were arrested Wednesday as they came to take the money at the hotel," the officer added.
