Three days after an Uber cab driver was accused of molesting a 21-year-old student here, he was arrested on Tuesday, Gurgaon police said.

The accused, Vinod, a resident of Shahbad Mohammadpur Village in Dwarka area, was asked by the police to present himself before Gurgaon sector 56 police station, where the molestation complaint was registered by the victim on Saturday.

A First Information Report (FIR) was registered around 10.30 p.m. on Monday under Section 354A (physical contact and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures) of the Indian Penal Code.

"We then contacted Vinod on his mobile phone and asked him to appear at the police station to help us in the inquiry in the molestation charge alleged by the woman passenger who travelled in his cab on Saturday," Inspector Amit Kumar told IANS.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajesh Singh said that Vinod reached the Gurgaon sector 56 police station Tuesday morning.

"We questioned the victim and the accused separately on Monday. After recording their statements we found that Vinod had kissed the victim's hand. After that we registered an FIR. The accused was arrested today around 12.30 p.m.," Rajesh Kumar said.

He also said that the accused had been employed with app-based taxi service Uber since May 4, 2015.

The woman, who resides in Delhi's Rohini area with her family and studies in DanceWorx academy, alleged that driver molested her on Saturday night around 10 p.m. in Gurgaon's Suncity area, when she disembarked from the car to go to a friend's house.

The matter came to light when her elder brother posted her complaint on social networking site Facebook.
