A political satire "Veep" shined at the 67th annual Primetime Emmy Awards here as it clinched an Emmy in the Outstanding Comedy Series category, bringing an end to the five-year reign of "Modern Family".

The HBO series which unfolds the political world of Washington on the small screen with a touch of humour, beat out old-time favourites including "Louie", "Modern Family", "Parks and Recreation", "Silicon Valley", "Transparent" and "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt".

With the award, "Veep" ended the winning streak of "Modern Family", a mockumentary revolving around a family and showing how their life as well as views collide with each other resulting into a conflict. The show lost for the first time in six years.

"Veep" left a big imprint at the Emmys this year as out of the nine nominations it swept off four awards including Outstanding Lead Actress In a Comedy Series for Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Film director Mel Brooks, who is known for having an impeccable comic timing, received an standing ovation when he walked onto the stage to present the award to the ecstatic team of "Veep".

Seizing the moment, Louis-Dreyfus captured the moment in form of a selfie with Brooks.

"It is about hope that anyone from any caste, race or creed can make it big. Thank you so much America. You have been welcoming to the British team. Thank you to the writers, makers and the cast behind it," Armando Iannucci, creator of the show, said while accepting the honour.

The show won for its fourth season, at the annual television award ceremony, which was held at the Microsoft Theater here on Sunday.
