We have done reasonably well under circumstances: PM

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Friday he did not think that the UPA story could be described as not successful.

To a question, the prime minister said: "I feel I have done reasonably well, despite the global financial downturn and eurozone crisis, and despite what is happening in other emerging countries like Brazil and like in South Africa and Indonesia, I don't think ours is a story that can be described as not successful."

"I am convinced considering the circumstances under which I had to work, because of the global economic slowdown, we have done reasonably well. We have delivered the highest rate of growth in the first nine years of our government, the highest since the country got going since country got independence.

"I have run the country with the greatest senses of dedication and commitment," he said, "and have successfuly managed a coalition for not one, but two terms, that many said the Congress may not be able to do."

Manmohan Singh said, more than once, that he was sure history will give him better credit that what the media or even the opposition have given him.
