Uttar Pradesh continued to shiver Sunday, as dense fog and cold wave conditions continued unabated. At least 25 people died since Saturday, taking the death toll due to the extreme cold to 125, officials said.
The winter chill was felt by people across the state, as the day temperature dipped and the sun showed up late in the day.
Dense fog led to delay of many trains and flights, officials said.
Railway officials said that due to dense fog in Delhi, many trains coming from the national capital were running late by 8-10 hours, leading to a major inconvenience to passengers.
The regional meteorological office said the prevailing weather conditions would continue for some more time as a 'dry zone' was prevailing in the Himalayas.
Because of this effect, while there would be sunlight in the hills, the plains would feel the chill.
Regional Met director J.P. Gupta said the state would be enveloped in dense fog on New Year's Eve and foggy conditions would prevail for the next few days.
Agra was the coldest place in the state with 2.8 degrees Celsius followed by Shahjahanpur (3.2), Kanpur (3.6) and Lucknow (4.9).
More than 25 people are reported to have died since Saturday due to the inclement weather.
Road accidents occurred in many places due to dense fog, police said.
