Woman chased and killed on Patna road

A middle-aged woman ran for her life on a public road but was chased and murdered in full public view here Sunday night, police said.

Shakuntala Devi was chased in Postal Park locality here by some people, who finally caught up with her and attacked her with sharp weapons, killing her, Patna's Senior Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj told media persons here.

He said it was the first such incident here.

Maharaj said that a preliminary inquiry into the case suggested that the murder was outcome of an old dispute with some of her relatives.

"Her killing is a result of the dispute," he said, adding police were trying to arrest the main accused Sunday night itself.

"Police teams have been raiding various places to arrest the accused," he said.

Hundreds of people thronged to the site after the news spread like wildfire here.
