A 23-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of an incoming train at a Kolkata Metro station here, an official said, adding services were also disrupted for over an hour.

"At 2.04 p.m there was a suicide attempt when the train was entering the Esplanade station. We had to go for a power block in order to retrieve the body," a Metro official said, adding the unidentified woman appeared to be in her early 20s.

Services were restored around 3.14 pm.

"The truncated services were from Kavi Subash to Maidan and from Noapara and Central stations," the official said.
