One can safely predict a drought of senior lawyers in the capital in the coming months. Chief Justice J S Khehar wants several Constitutional issues to be heard during the coming summer vacation. But the bar is resisting it. When the Constitution bench hearing the Whatsapp privacy controversy suggested on Tuesday a full hearing during the vacation, senior lawyers in the front row told the judges that they would not be available, and more competent ones could be allowed to argue. The bench understood their mood and withdrew the suggestion for the moment. There are three Constitution bench matters set for the vacation, and the intellectual drought might affect the outcome of those high-profile cases.
