Congress leaders performed a yagna in Lucknow on Wednesday, demanding Priyanka Gandhi be handed over the reins of the party in Uttar Pradesh. Amid chants of "Priyanka lao, desh bachao (bring Priyanka to save the country)", the leaders prayed that Congress President Sonia Gandhi would accept their request so that India's Grand Old Party could return to power in the state. They also had a formula to save the country from "communal and casteist forces": "Desh main Rahul, Pradesh main Priyanka (Rahul Gandhi for the country, Priyanka for the state)".
