Searching for information on your phone or personal computer is supposed to be a personal matter. However, the latest controversy over Indians searching for Olympic silver winning shuttler P V Sindhu's caste has made many internet users quite nervous. The debate is still on whether the quantum of Google searches for "pv sindhu caste" was disproportionately high compared to the usual searches for "pv sindhu" or it was just an issue that was blown out of proportion. However, it has made netizens wary as anyone can slice and dice data based on search trends, even narrowing it to a particular geography.
