The glitches in the online CAT should not be a deterrent to adopting state-of-the art technology. The lessons learnt from the setback should help improve the system in subsequent years.

The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) across the country should adopt a system wherein CAT, like GMAT or GRE, is held four to six times a year, so that the CAT aspirants can appear at their convenience and improve their scores, if required. This will also save the servers from overload.

Let us remember that MAT, held before CAT, went smoothly as there was no hype associated with it.

An irreparable damage to the system is that candidate morale has fallen. Their concentration, too, has been disturbed by the uncertainty. Rumours will only add to their consternation. To provide a level-playing field to all candidates, an option for re-exam should be given to those who may want to take the exam again.
