Letters: Onion solution

This refers to the editorial "Tears from onion" (October 15). Rising onion prices have become an annual recurring phenomenon. We should find a permanent solution to this problem by building the right infrastructure for their storage, and introducing market reforms to eliminate hoarding and allow free movement. Steps also need to be taken to increase the production of onions, and to eliminate middle-men so that both the farmer and consumer benefits. The Reserve Bank of India should respond to India Inc's appeal that food inflation will come down when the kharif crop arrives and a rate cut should be considered.
