Next on the agenda in Bengaluru

Now that Bengaluru is limping back to normal, political parties are turning their attention back to business... er... politics. The top issue on the agenda is the mayorship of India's tech hub. The Congress and Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) combine got the support of Independents to snatch Bengaluru from rival Bharatiya Janata Party, which had more seats in council elections.

With the one-year tenure for the incumbent, Manjunath Narayana Reddy of the Congress, ending this month, the combine wants to retain the city. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has given his assent to the continuation of the alliance but on the condition that the Congress retain the seat of the mayor. JD-S chief H D Deve Gowda wants his party member to hold the post. Watch this space.
