Aam Aadmi Party today claimed that nearly 10 lakh people have joined it in four days of its ongoing membership drive.

AAP leader Gopal Rai said the party is getting "warm" response from "aam aadmi" (common man) in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Buoyed by its success in Delhi, AAP started its membership drive on January 10 and it will run till January 26.

"Within four days of the launch of 'Main Bhi Aam Aadmi' campaign, nearly ten lakh people have taken membership of the party and many more will be joining AAP in the next few days," Rai, who is overall incharge of the drive, told reporters outside party's office here.

He said that party has set a target of one crore members by January 26.

"In south India, a large number of people from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are becoming members of AAP," he said, adding that there are 300 districts where party's membership drive is on.

Rai said those interested in becoming member of AAP can go to the party's website, give a missed call, send an SMS or contact it through the party's door-to-door campaign.

"Around 4.5 lakh people have become members of party by registering themselves on party's web site. Besides, 6.5 lakh people have attained membership by making missed calls while around one lakh people have joined AAP by sending SMS," he said.

AAP has also launched two new numbers for membership drive through which people can register themselves by sending SMS or making a missed call. He said many people could not join AAP due to heavy traffic on the earlier number. "To sort out this problem, we have launched two new numbers."

Rai said that anyone who has taken AAP membership can apply for candidature for Lok Sabha election by filing a form available on party's website.
