The judicial custody of Bahujan Samaj Party MP Dhananjay Singh and his wife, arrested for the alleged murder of their maid, was extended till Dec 16, sources said Thursday.
The court hearing the case was told by the defence counsel that the two could not be presented before it as police officers who escort them from jail to court were busy on election duty and a magistrate posted in Tihar Jail had extended their judicial custody, court sources said.
Dhananjay Singh, who represents the Jaunpur Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested and booked for destroying evidence and violating provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.
His wife Jagriti was booked for murder, attempt to murder and for violating the Juvenile Justice Act after the maid died of injuries suffered as a result of alleged torture.
