Pradhan started as an Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarti Parishad activist in 1983 and later joined the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. Modi picked Pradhan out for his organisational skills and entrusted him with being the in-charge of Tripura in 2004, Chhattisgarh in 2008 and Bihar in 2010. He has also been organisational in-charge of the party in Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Odisha. He is currently a general secretary and considered a rising star.
