Manmohan Singh 'my political guru' has a clear conscience: Rahul Gandhi

'The amount Singh has done for this country, no one else has'

Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday called Prime Minister Manmohan Singh his political guru, and said the latter has very clear intentions.

"I have two gurus in politics, the Congress President and Manmohan Singh. The amount Manmohan Singh has done for this country, no one else has. Everyone can do politics, but the most important thing is intent," said Gandhi, while addressing a public rally in Punjab's Sangrur District.

"If you have bad intent, nothing will happen, and with good intentions you can make everything happen. Dr Manmohan Singh has the right intent - and he has transformed the developmental paradigm of India," he added.

Gandhi also claimed credit for the ordinance on convicted lawmakers.

The Congress number two said the country needs women-power.

"Unless women are brought into politics, we will not achieve the progress we want," he added.

"If a mother is perturbed, the house is perturbed and if the house is perturbed, the state is perturbed. There is not a single mother in Punjab who isn't worried about her children's future and the biggest reason is - addiction," he added.

Lauding the farming community, Gandhi said one can't give people of India the right to food without the farmers of Punjab and Haryana.

Gandhi said the Congress Party has empowered the common man since 2004.

"We started the politics of right. We said each and every one in India - be it Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Jain and where ever they may be in the country- we will give them right to food, right to education, right to information," said Gandhi.

"Who has brought in the Right To Information? Not the BJP. Go to one of the states they rule and see what happens to those who file RTIs," he added.

The Congress Vice-President's rally in Punjab comes a day after he kick-started his party's campaign in Uttar Pradesh for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls by addressing rallies in Aligarh and Rampur.
