Naidu aims to develop Vizag as mega city

Says Vizag would be financial, commercial, tourism, medical, ITIR, petrochemical, industrial and film industry hubs in the coming days

The Andhra Pradesh government would develop Visakhapatnam as a mega city.

Speaking after the first Cabinet meeting here on Thursday, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu said Vizag would be financial, commercial, tourism, medical, ITIR (information technology investment region), petrochemical, industrial and film industry hubs in the coming days.

The government would release Rs 60 crore for the operations of Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences in three months. A medical college attached to it would also come up.

Apart from this, the government is planning to sanction a metro rail project for city's faster development. It would also get Railway Zone headquarters, Naidu stated.

The LNG petronet terminal project at Gangavaram port would not only boost state's economy, but also create new development in and around Vizag, according to the chief minister.

A sub-committee comprising Panchayat Raj and minor irrigation ministers and officials of municipal corporation would be set up for speedy implementation of the NTR Sujala Sravanthi programme (water project).

The government has decided to involve private sector for supply of safe drinking water to all rural people at Rs 2 for 20 litres.

It would also release a series of white papers on corruption and misutilisation of government funds, the chief minister said.
