The students of Sharda University got an opportunity to meet and interact with the Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine, Prof.Dr.Werner Arber, as he visited Sharda University to enlighten and share his experience on medicine with the students and the faculty. The lecture happened on Monday, from 3.30pm to 5pm at the campus.

“It is indeed, a great honor for Sharda Group as Prof.Dr.Werner, the Nobel Laureate made his presence at the campus and shared his scintillating experience with the students and the faculty. This kind of initiative has always been encouraged and would definitely be beneficial in nurturing the future generation.” as said by P.K.Gupta, Chancellor & Chairman SGI.

Born on June 3, 1929 in Gränichen in the Canton of Aargau, Switzerland, Prof. Werner made significant contribution to medicine science by discovering the restriction enzymes and postulating that these enzymes bind to DNA at specific sites containing recurring structural elements made up of specific base pair sequences.

Sharing his experience, Dr.Werner said “The education scenario and the system at Sharda University is phenomenal and I would like to visit again as I have encountered a strong flair for learning and enthralling response from everyone here.”

Dr.Werner Arber started this field of research in Geneva during the 1960's. He threw the light on his discovery of restriction enzyme and studying of an earlier known phenomenon, "host controlled restriction of bacteriophages". He also told the process involved changes in the DNA of the virus. He showed that the phenomenon could be divided into two components: restriction and modification.

The lecture was quite useful for the students who are pursuing the course in medicines and the prospective youngsters who can think of it as a career.
