Certification analyzes and tests security features used to protect sensitive customer data
Teradata Corporation (NYSE: TDC) announced recently that the Teradata 12 database has completed a security evaluation for conformance to the Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation, under the requirements of International Standard Organization and the International Electrotechnical Commission, ISO/IEC 15408.
The rigorous assessment was conducted by a third-party laboratory under the guidance of the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme. The certification included analysis and testing to ensure that the product's security features and development processes conform to the Common Criteria security requirements.
"Teradata is keenly focused on achieving this certification for major database release because it provides our customers with confidence in the design and implementation of the security functionality and associated processes," said Scott Gnau, chief development officer, Teradata Labs.
The principal objective of the NIAP validation body is to oversee competent IT security evaluation and validation services for both government and industry. During the evaluation, the applicant must demonstrate its ability to provide products that fulfill customer needs and meet applicable U.S. regulatory requirements.
The Teradata 13 database, the newest release, is currently in the extensive certification process and has achieved "in review" status, which is a major milestone in the assessment against the rigorous requirements of the Common Criteria Security Evaluation ISO 15408.
