A day after NDFB militants killed five Hindi speaking people in Kokrajhar, one more person was gunned down today in Udalguri district by suspected terrorists from the same organisation.
According to senior police officials, a Hindi speaking barber was coming out of his saloon when suspected NDFB(S) extremists fired from close range, killing him on the spot.
The incident took place in Ambagaon under Udalguri police station in the district.
The barber has been identified as Bikram Singh (55), a native of Bihar, police said.
Last night, suspected NDFB (S) terrorists killed five Hindi speaking people and injured three others after stopping the bus on the National Highway-31 in Kokrajhar district. The vehicle was from Siliguri in West Bengal to Shillong in Meghalaya.
The ultras had asked the eight passengers to come out and then lined them up before raining a volley on them.
Four of the five dead and three injured were identified today.
The deceased hailing from Bihar are Papu Kumar Singh (25), Shamsher Mantri (20) and brothers Ahot Bihari (20) and Raj Bihari (19), police sources said.
The injured, also from Bihar and admitted to Bongaingaon Civil Hospital, are Amol Gupta, Ramanand Ojah and Babulal Karmakar.
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has asked the state DGP to take strict action against NDFB militants.
According to an official release, Gogoi condemned the killings and has ordered the new DGP Khagen Sarma to intensify operations to nab culprits.
