The incident took place on Thursday night, when the victim had gone to a nearby shop and the 16-year-old accused took her to a secluded spot on some pretext and raped her, they said.
Following a complaint made by her parents yesterday, the police lodged a case in this connection against the accused, who is a student of Class X.
Yesterday, after the medical examination confirmed rape, the accused was detained and produced before a local court, which shifted him to a juvenile home, police said.
