Police, who got a tip-off about the smuggling, started checking vehicles at Pappanaadu village near here.
They checked a car on suspicion and seized the gold from the vehicle.
They arrested two occupants of the car--Kathikeyan and Sheik Moideen, police said.
The gold would be handed over to the Treasury and case filed, police added.
