A total of sixteen Indian Police Service (IPS) officials have been chargesheeted by the CBI in the last four years on various charges, the government informed the Parliament today.
Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary, in a written reply in Rajya Sabha, said out of these officers, 10 are facing criminal charges, two corruption charges while four have been discharged by the competent courts.
"IPS officers are allotted to various state/UT cadres and are serving in connection with the affairs of the state government/UT concerned. In all prosecution cases against IPS officers approval of central government is not required. As such, consolidated data with regard to IPS officers facing prosecution in various cases in the country is not centrally maintained.
"However, as per the information received from the Central Bureau of Investigation, chargesheets against 16 IPS officers have been filed by the CBI during 2012, 2013, 2014 and upto October 31 this year," he said.
